5 Nutrients That Can Wreck Your Energy (If You’re Low)
You can sleep 8 hours.
You can eat “healthy.”
You can meditate, hydrate, and even go gluten-free…
…but if you’re missing these five nutrients — your energy is going to tank.
Here’s what I test for almost every time someone tells me:
“I’m just tired all the time, and nothing’s helping.”
Let’s go.
1. Ferritin (Stored Iron)
This is your iron reserve, and it needs to be above 70 for your mitochondria to function properly.
Low ferritin = low oxygen delivery = low energy.
Symptoms: fatigue, hair loss, shortness of breath, anxiety, heavy periods
Labs: Even if you’re “normal,” under 50 = red flag for fatigue
2. Vitamin B12
Essential for nerve health, brain function, and energy production.
Low levels = poor methylation, low focus, and burnout.
Symptoms: brain fog, numbness/tingling, fatigue, mood swings
Labs: Aim for 700–900+ (not 300, which many labs still call “normal”)
3. Vitamin D
Not just for bones, it’s critical for immunity, mood, mitochondria, and hormone function.
Symptoms: fatigue, low mood, hormone imbalances, frequent infections
Labs: I aim for 60–80 ng/mL, not just “above 30”
4. Magnesium
The “spark plug” mineral used in over 300 enzyme reactions.
Stress depletes it. So does caffeine, alcohol, and under-eating.
Symptoms: muscle cramps, anxiety, insomnia, constipation, low energy
Labs: RBC magnesium is more accurate than serum
5. Zinc
Essential for thyroid, testosterone, immune function, and neurotransmitter balance.
Symptoms: fatigue, poor wound healing, frequent illness, low libido, hormonal acne
Labs: Optimal is around 90–120 µg/dL
The Fix? Stop Guessing. Start Testing.
You don’t need to shotgun supplements.
You need to find out what you’re actually low in, and replete from the ground up.
These 5 nutrients can make or break your energy levels, and most are totally missed or under-tested in standard care.
